So why did I create this blog? The answer is that I want to help others who are worried about what I like to call "radical moral subjectivism" - the idea that morality is based on personal preferences. I have noticed that my students appear to be radical moral subjectivists, at least when you ask them directly. This philosophically incoherent idea can, even if students only provide lip-service to it and are moral objectivists in practice, be disastrous to society. That's why I think that any kind ofsuccesful moral education must face the challenge of radical moral subjectivism.
On this blog I will post the tools I use in class to discuss the distinction between moral subjectivism and moral objectivism. I will also post my academic writings here which underpin the need for moral education. Teachers are free to use the material on this website and modify it to suit their own purposes. The content right now is limited to the fact or opinion worksheet tool and some class discussion topics but I will be adding more content soon. Enjoy.
